When you are mobile and on-the-go, you can search our maps, and access every single location on every map from your iPhone, Blackberry, Android, or any phone with a mobile web browser. Just point your cell phone browser to www.yourmapper.com/m to start. Note that although these screenshots were taken on an iPhone, this version will work on any mobile web browser.
It will automatically detect your location if you are connected to a Wi-Fi spot. Adjust the search center by typing your address, city, and state. Then choose from the drop down which map you’d like to see. If your mobile phone supports it, tilt to landscape view to see more of the map description in the drop down. ”Get Map!” will quickly get your results, even on a slower Edge network.
Your Mapper shows an optimized, static map of your results, with information about the map above.
Below the map are the color coded categories that you can toggle if you’d like to refine your search. You can filter your results by any combination of categories, date range (if applicable), and/or by a keyword (searches location names and descriptions). All the filtering options you have on the full site are available to you here.
The results show 25 locations at a time, with page 1 being the closest 25, and page 4 being the farthest 75-100 markers.
You have the option of emailing a Desktop or Mobile version of your filtered search results to someone, so they can check out what you have found. The email icons will open a pre-formatted email in your phone’s native email application.
Each location has its own category-color-coded box filled with information and tools for that one result. It will show the location name, address, city, state, distance from you, category, date, and description.
You can see a specific marker location in more detail on your phone’s native mapping application by clicking on the address.
You can also share the location detail page with someone by email just by clicking the Email Location icon, and again this will open an email in your phone’s email app.
Another neat feature is the Directions link which will give you detailed driving directons in your phone’s mapping application.
Here’s what that looks like on the iPhone.
With so much data available, the more you use our mobile app, the more you’ll find yourself reaching for your phone when you are in a new location, taking a walk, sitting on the couch, at a friend’s house, or riding as a passenger in a car or bus, just to lookup crime, pollution, building permits, property values, restaurant reviews, or historic sites in your immediate area. And keep an eye peeled for our free native iPhone app soon!
